Malay cultural and heritage tourism at Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Malaysia / Salbiah Abd Rahman

Malay culture and heritage at Bukit Chandan is an important aspect of tourism along the lines of cultural heritage because it has left behind a historical legacy of old buildings, Malay traditions and handicrafts that date back to the Malaccan Sultanate. During the past five centuries Bukit Chandan had many rulers. Today, this area has accumulated legacies that should be observed and documented into our Malaysian history and as well as utilized forcultural tourism development. Among the rich Malay cultural heritage legacies that are slowlydying out among the Malay community are Keris making (Malay weapon), Tekat (Textile Embroidery), Jebak burung (Bird Trapping), Gambus (Malay music), old Malay houses, Majestic colonial buildings and delectable authentic Perak Malay cuisine that has passed down by their forefathers since the 18th century. This research aims to show that this rich array of Cultural Heritage located at Bukit Chandan is in dire need of promotion and preservation and also to maintain its sustainability and development for our future generations. It’s unique craftsmanship and arts should be preserved and documented in books that can be passed on from generation to generation through internships or workshops conducted by the master craftsmen themselves
